Mary Castro was born Mary Antoinette Castro in West Covina, California, and grew up in La Verne, California. She is of Irish, Spanish, and French descent on her mother's side, and Mexican descent on her father's side. She attended Bonita High School where she was on the varsity Drill team. She was also an active member of the Bonita High School Chorale. Her Music teacher discovered her profound voice and quickly moved her to the Concert choir.
